At least 1,000 people have died and over 1,500 people injured after a 6.1 magnitude earthquake hit eastern Afghanistan this morning as many people were still asleep.
The death toll is due to rise as more bodies are excavated from beneath the rubble, which were once homes. Alongside homes being destroyed, there has been damage to critical local infrastructure.
Following two decades of war and now economic sanctions, the Afghan people continue to suffer. In circumstances where the US and Britain have seized billions of dollars of Afghan money, they don't have resources to feed themselves, let alone provide emergency relief to earthquake victims.
As a result, Human Aid, who are one of the very few NGOs on the ground right now, are in Paktika and Khost provinces to deliver your assistance with temporary shelter and food. As the death toll rises we are calling for your support to help those who are suffering and in need of support.
